Sinoć sam bio na promociji interesantne knjige. Uživao sam slušajući pametne i mudre ljude, a posle toga je usledio uobičajeni koktelčić. Ćaskanje sa prijateljima i istomišljenicima mi je još više popravilo raspoloženje, sve dok je nisam primetio gospođu koju je već načeo zub vremena.
Umesto da razgovara, neprestano je klimala glavom i nije skidala osmeh sa lica.
Mediji nam svakodnevno sugerišu da “osmeh govori o vašem unutrašnjem miru i životnom optimizmu”, a razni lajfkouči “da ostavlja bolji utisak na sagovorinika”. Ovde je bilo u pitanju nešto drugo – gospođa je imala nove zube od najmanje 10.000 € i to su morali svi da primete.
I primetili su – bio je to bio lažni osmeh.
Temom nasmejanih lica i lažnih osmeha pozabavio se dobro poznati autorski dvojac Norman Whitfield/Barrett Strong u pesmi “Smiling Faces Sometimes“. Pesma se našla na albumu Sky’s the Limit (1971) grupe The Temptations, a fenomenalni Eddie Kendricks se njome na pravi način oprostio od grupe i zaplovio u solističke vode. Nikada više nisu imali pevača koji bi bio tako dobar u falsetu.
Kako albumska verzija pesme traje skoro 13 minuta, bilo je govora da se skrati i izda kao singlica. No, Kendricks je već bio otišao, a promućurni Whitefield ju je iste godine upucao na debitantski album svojih novih pulena The Undisputed Truth. Snimljena je u novom aranžmanu i skraćena, tako da je posao uspešno okončan – nova grupa, uprkos svom nesumnjivom kvalitetu, nikada više nije postigla takav uspeh na listama.
Dok slušate obe verzije, imate vremena i da proučite originalni tekst. Nije misaona poezija, ali je poučan.
